I don't think superman's overdone, so much as badly done, especially the Superman Returns flick, which had great moments but was bogged down with a sappy script, a horrible Lois Lane, and a Lex Luthor-as-comedian that irritated me. I see your point, but would you suggest getting away from all

I've never been a big fan of the Punisher. He always struck me as the twisted twin of Batman, the answer to a What if? that asked What would happen if Batman *killed* his enemies? Not that there's anything wrong with the character: indeed, in the comic (or real) world, it may be more believable
