I just saw Speed racer with my daughter and her two friends. I do not think I
would have liked it if I saw if with adults, but watching it with three five
year old Lightning Mc Queen fans, if was a blast, besides as a lifelong Racer X
fan, I was in nostalgia heaven.

Now Hell Boy II is a different story- I was really looking forward to this one.
The critics raved. Many of you guys raved. It was visually out of this
world. It delivered on action, humor and special effects. But… I thought the
story was mediocre—predictable, paint by the numbers. Many of the characters
were two dimensional. I do not think there was even one plot element that was
a surprise. While the romance in action/adventure movies usually advances the
story, I thought the romantic angle was too heavy-handed and pulled the story
down. There were times when I felt like I was watching a soap opera or a Life
Time Harlequin romance TV Movie. I fear for the future of the Hobbit Movie.
I hope my fears are unfounded. I would hate to see a buy the book telling of
that story.

Things are getting tough all over. Hopefully things will work out.

I watched Speed Racer and loved it. It was a candy coated, dayglo
present for the fans of the original and it delivered on that level.
The use of the theme song, the villains like the Mammoth Car, Snake
Oiler and others from the original series was great. Matthew Fox,
John Goodman and the others looked like they were having a ball. The
only problem was it was too much of a nostalgia trip. If you weren't
a fan of the series you won't like the movie.

We also watched Hellboy II: The Golden Army. It was typical Del Toro
goodness. It didn't feel quite as cohesive as the first movie but it
was a visually stunning and funnier. The ending fight seemed a little
lacking but other than that I had no complaints. The tooth fairy
scene was enough to give you nightmares.
