What actually happened at the end was great, but I think the delivery somehow fell flat. So, perhaps the rushed sensation you described is what bothered me. Most episodes this season had me on edge and alert, with a feeling of need more. After such an excellent season in which the worst episodes were very good, the finale was a letdown for me. Other than what you said, I cannot put my finger on why. The writing definitely was not of the same caliber I've come to expect this season. Sigh...
