I currently work as a developer for the ilastik project (http://ilastik.org/),
and I will be starting a PhD in bioinformatics at UCSD this fall. I would
like to participate in the Google Summer of Code this year.
I have hacked on scikit-learn for my own work in the past.

It may be because you have not run the "fit" function.
After running "clf.fit", clf object will have those members.

It sounds like connected components analysis is more appropriate. You can
clean up your blobs using morphology techniques, and then use connected
components analysis to identify each blob.

I've had an offer to write a book on scipy, but I've turned it down (I
really don't have the time to do such a thing well enough). The amount is
not a huge amount, but the royalty about seems to be a good rate.
If anyone is interested, I'm happy to forward names onto the publisher.
