Hi Greg,
I have never suggested functionality to ignore descenders, nor to ignore
Text Overflow errors, I am suggesting functionality to have Text
Overflow errors conform to the Minimum Bounding Box, which should
include descenders or for that matter anything related to the true text
rendering
Hi Peter,
No, this was absolutely not what I said or wanted to suggest, and if you
take the time, you will notice I have reported both issues now. JGhali
was kind enough to immediately close the one about this text overflow
issue, since my report of today is a duplicate of an issue no.3332 that

So, you are to busy to even file a bug/request in the bug tracker, but
you think the developers have a lot of spare time so they can do that
for you?

Minor correction to my last e-mail. I noticed I had made a typo:

Good point of view that I subscribe too.

Yes, that is exactly the reason I kept consistently reporting issues
back to the developers in my IT years...

Bugs are quite easy to list on http://bugs.scribus.net
Most of 'mine' have been on the to-be-fixed waiting list
for one year or little more,
so this is part of the thing with Scribus.
I consider this of part of the process to remind programmers
of us (basic users) basic priorities...

Hi Lars and JLuc,
Believe me, I have worked in IT for almost 10 years as a programmer, and
in that time period have reported probably a few dozen bugs and
usuability issues to the developer of the software package I needed to
do my own development in, sometimes needing to go through quite a bat

OK, thanks Peter and Michael.
It does seem Scribus could use some serious improvement in this area.
Having a text frame respecting the Minimum Bounding Box around a text
would be really helpful, especially for large typefaces. The current
implementation makes using the Align and Distribute tool
I had the same problem only worse (1.3.3.12). Even with a couple of text
characters printed small in a huge text frame I would sometimes get the
overflow sign. This only happened sometimes, and no one on the list had
an answer.

Hi all,
Does anyone know why Scribus needs the Text Frame to be far bigger than
the Minimum Bounding Box (MBB) around the text it contains?
I noticed for example that if I have a text of 20pt height and 50pt
wide, the Text Frame needs to be maybe 35pt high and 80pt wide in order
for Scribus to
