YES, I do agree with Bills statement...I had real experience fighting with some set of CCIEs and CCNAs on the argument of MAC address passes through serial connections. They claims that they can capture MAC address of source and destination on the serial connection.

As to this verification thread the issuing company of any legitimate certification will have a verification process available.
