i dont know all the particulars of your setup but Ive had a PIX firewall
authenticating requests to port 80 via RADIUS which is set up on the
exch box. The RADIUS server auths off the Active Directory so that the
exch users use the same user/pass in the RADIUS prompt.

if choftp's shell is /bin/false there is no way for it even open an ftp
connection. it needs at least /bin/sh to connect to the ftp daemon an run
stuff like ls and get.
