I've actually written an extension that provides this functionality. I've
been planning on releasing it to the community - this might be a good
moment to actually do so. I'll have to make some final adjustments, and can
probably release the code somewhere later this or next week.
Presently I'm doing this with pywikipediabot that's watching recent changes
