Floods in Serbia: Nuns trapped in a monastery

TOPOLA – Five nuns in Nikolje monastery in Donja Satornja near Topola
have been cut off from the rest of the world, without electricity and
medicine for past two days.

The Head of the monastery prioress Evdokija said that the situation is
dramatic, because one dormitory was destroyed in the landslide, and
there is a threat to second one also. “Our life in endangered! Nowhere
to get away …

We don’t have electricity or medications. Water is all around us,”
Evdokija said. Dragan Jovanovic, the Mayor of Topola, where the
situation is very dramatic because of the floods, confirmed that the
nuns are threatened and that they will start rescue operation today.

“Yesterday we tried to get with the boat to the Monastery, but (river)
Jasenica destroyed all the entrances to the monastery. We are trying
to find another way to get through,” said Jovanovic.
