As I mentioned, I have a CDMA EVDO modem for Internet access. This works
fine Ubuntu and Debian laptops. On the schoolserver, pppd restarts
within a minute for no reason.

Yes, this worked for me.
It would be more ideal to include /var/run/ppp/resolv.conf into
named-xs.conf dynamically, but I am happy enough.
