There are services online that will test your mail server to see if it
is an open relay. Using one of these is probably going to be better
than someone looking at log files
I found the services via google when I setup my first mail server.

A quick question / clarification:
I turned off the case-sensitivity for usernames.
The UserIs matcher appears to follow that correctly.
The reciepientIs matcher does not.
Am I missing something here?

I have designed a Spamassassin mailet and serveral other spam-related mailets
and matchers for james, it will be released as open source soon.

No. It's something on the wishlist, but complex to achieve for now.

You have SMTP AUTH enabled but also have not set correct domains for james
to know what is destined for local users, meaning that anyone wanting to
send to a local user (for which you don;t want to require auth) cannot be
distinguished from someone wanting to relay to another external
destination
