the front end guy told me my drivers side inner tie rod is bad. (87 Shelby
lancer) It looks easy in the manual any hints to make my life easer?

Yes, don't bother! Replace the whole rack. If one inner tie rod is going
bad, the rest of the rack is probably not too far from going out, too. I
think you'll find the hasle is not worth it. And yes, it does take a special
tool to replace an inner tie rod.
