Dear Akbar:
Everyone needs a siesta-license to use the SIESTA package
(and TranSIESTA, which is part of the SIESTA package
from the siesta version 3.0) .
To get a siesta-license you have to apply for it, the first
step of the application is done on line on our web page
www.uam,es/siesta.
For academic individuals, go to the tab "licenses", choose
the corresponding type of license and register on line.
Some time will pass until your license gets approved
it has to be reviewed by humans. Note that we are having
some hundred new requests every 20 days or so. So
the waiting time might be of some week or two.
Nevertheless you should receive automatic acknowledge
of your application almost inmediately (by a robot)
If you do not receive any acknowledge of your application,
send us an email.
(BTW using you academic email for the registration makes
the approval faster)
How much does it cost to have a SIESTA license?
For academics is free of charge (not so for non-academic
institutions, who should ask me directly by email).
Another common question is:
- Should I read and comply with the license terms
even if it is free of charge for me (being an academic)?
Yes, note that SIESTA is not free software, or GPL, or
open source, so there are some conditions to its use, mainly:
- Distribution (of any part) is not allowed (but for the distributors)
- Modification of the code is allowed but for your private use.
- Proper citation is required if the SIESTA calculations helps
produce some publication.
