Okay, I tried the orinoco drivers and it now works. I think I tried them
before, but I was using a different AP and the phase angle of the
electricity in the wiring in the room was less than it is now ;)

I have a POS D-Link DWL-650 (made by gemtech). I've used it with the
wlreless-ng by building from source per their INSTALL, worked fine (but I
never got the patches to make airsnort work to work). I've also used the

gentoo linux is another source based self compiled distro. unlike
sorcerer gentoo uses a system similar to freebsd's ports for package
management. very nice its like apt-get on steroids.

Finally traced down something ( don't have it bookmarked, sorry ), which
suggested changing from wvlan_cs to orinoco_cs for your card in
/etc/pcmcia/config.
I did, it stopped bitching, and worked.
RH 7.2 w/ RH 2.4.9-21 kernel, so YMMV.
