I installed Mandrake 9.0 on my Toshiba notebook. I didn't have any
problems with DHCP, but my video didn't work (for now I am using frame
buffer) and the sound didn't work.

The problem is that the card is non-PnP ISA, and the kernel driver does not properly
detect the resources. I had to use 3com's dos utility to look up these resources.
I made some changes to /etc/modules.conf. I'd make a backup of that file before
upgrading, I don't know if Mandrake will wipe

Mandrake is the Windows of the Linux world. It takes /all/ the guess work
out of it. You should get an IP even before you really finish the install
