[Siglinux] boot hanging at net protocol family?

I've just put together a new computer running a P4/2.8 on an Abit VI7 motherboard. I have gentoo installed with a 2.6.1-mm5 kernel, but upon the first system boot (without the install cd), it hangs at at these last two lines.. "NET: Registered Protocol Family 1 NET: Registered Protocol Family 10"
