I'm sorry. I did not mean to be so cryptic... Basically, the MBR (Master Boot Record) is in the first few sectors of your boot device (here, the harddisk) where one keeps data that boots up operating system(s) in the rest of the hard drive. If that data is not right, then the OS'es may not boot.
