I just read a blog post around overcoming challenges for a thriving startup ecosystem. Guess which country this is.
Hard to raise capital: "<Country's> biggest problem is that it doesn’t have much in the way of early-stage capital. It’s fine from Series A on…" ESOP's don't make sense: "It’s difficult for companies to offer employees stock options, because they get taxed at both ends." Tough immigration policy: "The government’s short-sighted attitude to foreign students doesn’t help — they’re kicked out of the country as soon as they complete their degrees" Tall Poppy: "<In country> there exists an embedded mindset that makes it unseemly for someone to hold himself above others. …if (people are) behaving themselves, (they) should not stand out for any reason". The answer is its about the eco-system in Stockholm, Sweden. http://pandodaily.com/2012/11/20/why-tiny-stockholm-has-the-most-stunning-startup-ecosystem-since-tel-aviv/ Regards, Rory Ford -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Silicon Beach Australia mailing list.
