I'd be interested in what tools/services exist just for receiving SMS messages
(and extracting data from them) into a web app.
I have no need to send, just to receive.
Has anyone done anything like this?

Do you want the consumer texting to a shortcode or are you ok with them texting
to a regular 04.. mobile number (a longcode)? Short codes need to be
provisioned across all carriers, which carries an expense and some smaller
carriers don't support them. Long codes can be obtained more easily.
Mate,
there's Aron Steg on this list who's a black belt in SMS and everything
like this. http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=1585684
Drop him a line.

Indeed I am. Thanks as always max. I run my own SMS business www.bulksms.com.au
but that may not be what you need for this project. It's a minefield out there.
Give me a buzz and I will talk you through it. Grab my contact number off
www.smsd.com.au.
Aron.

Hi,
Starting to build an MVP.
Need to use an interactive SMS gateway/service where:
- My back-end can send/receive/process SMS through the gateway
- Numbers can be easily provisioned (international numbers would be good)
- Ruby support is ideal
There's stuff out there but wanted to
i use smsglobal, they're pretty good..
i've not used twillo, but they seem to have a good rep.
