Another thing. A 24v transformer will put out as much as 100 volts peak with no load, A 30 volt zener diode will protect the LM chip from over voltage failure. The capacitors will even out the peak voltages, so, maybe that's not a problem. Only an ocilliscope will tell you what is happening...a
