Greetings everyone!

This message is sent to the list and CC:'d directly to Marshall and
Duncan to catch their attention. Direct replies accordingly, everyone.

A couple of questions have arisen about commercial activity rules for
the silver list. Let me clarify.

The present wording of the commercial activity rule is as follows:

> No Commercial Activity
>
> This is a non-commercial forum. No vendor may participate except as
> a private individual. No promotion of any kind is permitted without
> my prior, explicit approval of each occurrence. No vendor or

With that understanding, lets address the first question:

Marshall asked:
> I though we were not supposed to be allowed to talk about our
> competitors in this forum any more. ... What's the rule?

He was responding to Ken's comment:
> There is no reason to suspect that the plates are anything other than
> .999 silver or better. Though Vince is a competitor, I don't think

I do not feel that Ken was promoting or maligning any product, nor
soliciting business for himself. In that I don't think he violated "the
letter of the law."

His comment was intended to reassure a couple of members that there
would be little for *any* vendor to gain and much to lose by supplying
less than 99.9% pure silver. It was a reasonable response to a valid
question and certainly did not violate the "spirit" of the rule.

In other words, it was not in any way adversarial or self promoting on
Ken's part and so does not undermine our goal of sharing "the most
fair, unbiased, and good quality information we can, freely, without
regard to ego or self interest," as expressed in our Mission Statement.

I guess about the only problem something like Ken's remark could cause
would be from backroom deals between vendors to promote each *other's*
products. I certainly hope we won't have to deal with that!

Secondly, I need to address Duncan Crow's offer:

Duncan wrote:
> I'm very familiar with these products; in fact, I'm a distributor.
> ... As usual, listmates can get Royal Body Care products for
> distributor cost by calling the company's toll-free number

Duncan is kindly giving list members access to wholesale prices on
these products, but I frankly don't want the list to carry this kind of
overt promotion as it is too likely to spawn imitators and
confrontational competition.

The above rule also states:
> No promotion of any kind is permitted without my prior, explicit
> approval of each occurrence.

So Duncan needed to clear this with me and didn't.

I will contact you privately, Duncan, to see if we can settle on
equitable guidelines for you to follow.

With that, I will repost the current list mission, rules, discipline
policy and etiquette guidelines for everyone to review.

In all I have to say the discussion is being well handled and new
people's questions dealt with quite well. An occasional prod has been
needed, but I've been amazingly untaxed over here!

For that I thank you all.

Be well,
