The seer Edgar Cayce was very keen on alkalinizing the body, and most
of his recommendations I've read had to do with diet. If I remember it
correctly, sugars and red meats, among other things tended to acidify
the bloodstream, whereas fruits and vegetables tended to alkalinize
it. He made a point of the fact that it was not the pH of the raw food
that was important, but the effect it had on the blood after the food
was metabolized. That is, just because a food is itself acidic, that
does not determine whether that food would have an acidizing or
alkalinizing effect on the body. You can get a good Edgar Cayce
paperback on health that usually spell out his diet recommendations.
