Back in the 1930s when I was a kid,ear pain was common and the remedy was to warm a teaspoon of olive oil,add black pepper and drop into the affected ear with a cotton-batten plug to keep it in.This worked well for me as I was prone to ear-aches.I have lately read that this is more prevalent in kids where one or more of the parents smoked. My father was a smoker and I think it was significant as my ear-aches were always in the winter when we were cooped up due to the cold weather.
