Hello Jonathan,
I heard the same thing about using oregano oil with lung
issues--specifically, emphysema and possibly lung cancer or vice versa.
It's a bit hazy and long ago. However, I can tell you that the
researcher was Professor Dr. K. Husnu Can Baser, Dean of the Faculty
of Pharmacy and Director of the Turkish Medicinal and Aromatic Plant
and Drug Research Center, Anadolu University. That title is from
1999--he may have a different one at this point.
Carvacrol is the most active ingredient in origanum essential oil hence
the focus of research. The % of carvacrol in the essential oil is also
an indication of the therapeutic strength of the essential oil. I always
dilute it to 20-50% with olive oil before using internally. [bunny
trail: North American Herb & Spice dilutes their original "Oil of
Oregano" down to about 95% olive oil IMO...but they use great oregano
oil in it.]

.................Some years ago, a vendor of essential oils told me of
research by a Turkish MD who claimed powerful lung healing effects
using oregano oil. I never could get a follow-up reply regarding the
details, sadly, and haven't had time to follow up myself. The vendor
made reference to "nebulizing the oils."
