Technically speaking..that would be electrode "crud"
and the tiny bits of it floating about in a laser beam would be "sparklies"
If the crud makes it to the top and stays there as a silver skin, we have

If you're using Trem's machine, there's a good chance the Tyndall
effect will be fairly subtle. You'd probably have to view it in a
darkened room if you are to see it at all, so that is one more thing to
try if you haven't yet. As you say, it's not crucial.
