I am all for listening to people who know a lot about sipx, and who
might have knowledge of this type of setup in theory, but I am really
looking for people who have successfully done this to chime in.
Question #1: HA only, mostly for fail over, voicemail and redirection to
cell phones and alternate numbers.
Can you put the HA box in a different geographical location? with
different local IP addresses?
It seems that places where you need to put IP ADDRESSES in for proxies
(like the Cisco 7960 phones that won't take a DNS in the GUI) would have
some problems.
example: DNS SRV records for secnap.com point to sip.bct.secnap.com
[204.89.241.150] and sip.tpa.secnap.com [4.8.4.5]
Internal network for 204.89.241.150 is 192.168.0.0/22 and for 4.8.4.5,
is 192.168.4.0/22.
All outbound calls will normally be made via SIP trunks (ITSP supports
multiple locations)
Q1a: will this work?
Q1b: do I need a VPN between the two to make them talk (securely?)
Q1c: what about remote phones? (do they need to be on the vpn also?).
if they have ip addresses in for proxy/and/or line proxy (cisco: the GUI
is broken), won't they fail?
Question #2: HA for both branch office and fail over.
Similar to question #1 above, but we have 25 users in office #2. I
would think that registering those phones 'locally' would be beneficial.
(I think we can do dual zone NAPTR/SRV records. if we can use dns names :-)
Q2a: I assume that the branch office can be a 'branch' in sipx (aka:
location) and we can route outbound calls via permissions and membership.
Q2b: what about voicemail? (yes, voicemail. ). I suppose if we have
interoffice trunk routing (different sets of extension numbers), we can
route calls from one sip to the other.
Q2c: has anyone actually done this?
I notice that you are running postgress for the SQL database, and DB
replication is not normally supported, however, unisom can VERY easily
replicate the voicemail file systems.
Does using a big CIDR network over vpn make this easier?
how much 'gitter' does IPSEC add to the call paths?
