That is correct. Many phones like polycom support ldap directly for
phonebooks. Which phone are you referring to?

No. Not directly.
Phonebooks can be imported from csv files only. So if you export the AD book
and make sure it is in the proper format:
Contacts for users can be added by listing Members Groups.
External contacts can be uploaded through CSV or VCARD files.
Created phonebook is visible on the use
Is it possible to import a phonebook from AD catalog? If yes, where
is stored on sipx server server and how is propagated to the phone?
