Title: RE: [Sisuite-users] Compiling kernel 2.6 for version 3.4.1 of system Imager
What OS are you using? e2fsprogs-devel is available on Red Hat-like systems (eg. Fedora and RHEL/clones).
We have been using 3.5.3 for quite some time now and it has been running pretty good. We do not test
Well, It is a production environment..
Still, I have problems to get a good kernel and initrd working with
3.5.3. I downloaded the source and Im a bit lost on how to just get
the kernel and initrd..
Tried to do a make install_initrd and other options and the configure
tools tells me Im missing e2
that's what we've been using for like 4 months or so.

Unless you have a specific reason for using 3.4.1, I strongly recommend you try 3.5.3 which already comes with the 2.6 kernel for all archs.

Title: RE: [Sisuite-users] sata_via support
Try this from Peter Mueller, it might work:

Alternatively, you can try the unstable version of SystemImager, 3.5.3, which has better support for SATA hardware.

Unless you get a kernel from somobody else already prepared with that
driver, building a custom kernel is the only option Im afraid.
I have the same problem too, with qlogic 23xxx drivers.

I have some new machines which use the via sata controller which the
kernel on my autoinstallcd seems not to support. I can run getimage
just fine but trying to install another machine it can't find /dev/sda.
I'm trying to avoid building a custom kernel . . .
thanks
