Actually there is a way around this...  if you mount your initrd.img, there should be a file called /etc/init.d/rcS - just comment the line which reads "check_version" and it should bypass the check.

I just did this, and the SI installation fails early on with
an error message saying that the kernel is for 3.4.1 whereas the
initrd is for 3.5.2 :-(

So it seems that we need to reconfigure the kernel in SI 3.5.2
in order to add SATA (and other) support.
