Might want to check RH's knowledge/support database so you can perhaps
download a few sndconfig RPM's instead of a whole new distro (though 7.1
looks to be much nicer than 7.0).

Having just bought a new monitor (a Videocom from Grace Bros of all places),
Michael's point is pretty much right on. You can tie yourself up worrying
about aperture grills, dot pitches and screen coatings or just ask the
salesperson to give you a live demo. The setup at GB was running through one
do get it working, AC97 sound is really tinny and
unamplified - get the software mixer/aumix to maximium master/PCM output
levels and use amplified speakers.
