Hi Friends

Well, here I am in the wilds of Pine Creek NT getting this XP laptop back
together after having to wipe the HDDs and reinstall the OS and everything.
In the interim I attempted coming to terms with a mate's new Vista machine, an
experience which had me contemplating either a), parting company with Mr
Microsoft and where he was going or b), slashing my wrists.

And it came to pass that during this time I fie me to darkest Katherine for
some Christmas shopping, and there I happened upon a copy of Ubuntu in a paper
shop. This is now installed on my second HDD. And what a bloody ripper it is.
Currently I'm familiarising myself with its integrated filing system, OOo and
Gimp etc.

But there is a problem. I can set up an internet connection okay in XP and
Virus Express, but when I tried to do this in Linux I found that I either
didn't know the answers to what I was being asked, or I didn't understand the
question - or both. And I can't download any Apps and updates until I have the
connection going. (Well maybe I can, but I'd rather do it directly through
Linux.)

Predictably, Pine Creek ain't exactly a hotbed of open-sys activity, so I
thought I'd send an E and see if someone there can help.

Thanking you for your attention

Trues Yourly
