I was just looking over the posts at Slashdot for the beta release of Red
Hat 7.1 ("Fisher") and found this potentially helpful quote:

I just recently installed the lastest alsa drivers on a dell latitude
(meastro3 equipped) with great success, although the sound is a little
scratchy.

I use Redhat 7 - it's sndconfig program can detect the soundcard, but
then tells me that it is not supported. Ensoniq has been taken over by
Creative, but neither make Linux drivers for
