no. under smb, "printing = yes" is kinda like a d-w--w--wt
directory. if you make it writable, you could probably mess with other
print jobs, etc.

yet when I do something like
[root@laser /root]# echo "blah blah" > /dev/lp0
it prints fine..
My /etc/printcap
check that the normal unix printer system is working. from the samba
server, try "lpr /etc/motd".
