I second Lin
I recommend apcupsd because i've used it, but I notice collectd has a
NUT plugin, so knock yourself out with whatever. :-)

That's right, you'd want to aggregate the collectd stats in one place,
and run Nagios on the same system.
In a VM or a dedicated host, it doesn't really matter. There are lots
of hosting providers out there, but I would recommend going for one
geographically proximate to the machines you'r

I have just built a debian 5 file server that's also going to host some VMs
for me.
I'll be building a second file server soon, and I'm going to have some
hosted VMs as well.
There's a lot of monitoring software out there and I'm not sure what to use.
