Thanks for the replies. I'll just eventually re-format the drive.
I'm moving all data from my NTFS formatted drives to ext3 as I'm setting up my home LAN to run linux on all PC's (one as a NAS unit), though I'll keep an XP install (dual-boot linux) on my laptop and use a thumb-drive if I need to save data under XP and transfer it later.
