I would go with a brand name usb modem. Thats probably your best bet (look on linux-usb.org), a banksia or netcomm would probably be recognised. You will also wana check what drivers do what, as i have found with usb in 2.4 it doesnt always recognise compatable hardware. (the smc usb ethernet
