tcpdump shows packets going out the ppp interface, they don't arrive at
the other end though.
and vise versa!
oh well back to using minicom :-)

So you are trying to have a ppp connection between your
linux machine and the nokia 9110.
You have connectivity (terminal session), but ppp is not working.
My guess is that you need to use `local' as one of the
keywords given to pppd, which prevents pppd from waiting
forever for some stuff it
