You can click from the track pad - go to System Preferences and set the
Track Pad to accept a double tap as a click - I never use the mechanical
click.
Your explanation for the sound problems seems reasonable - no suggestion as
to how to fix.

The switch inside the headphone port is stuck, you can dislodge it gently with
a match or to connect/disconnect the headphones multiple times.
Under the trackpad is a screw which you can tighten to adjust the sensitivity
of the click, a Mac tech can adjust it if that's the issue, otherw
