Fair point, but it's obviously not supposed to be making said noise!
I used to share a study and couldn't believe how noisy my colleague's
HP was! It drove me mad! I'm used to a silent MB!
Trouble is, it's brand spanking new, so upgrading to SSD, just seems a
little expensive right now!

Without seeing the laptop it's difficult assess but it doesn't sound like a
huge problem other than an annoying noise. Best thing would be to upgrade to a
solid state drive, your laptop will be faster and near-silent!

You can probably do it yourself, it's about a half hour job. Just get the right
screen from ebay and it should come with the correct tools. There are loads of
tutorials on youtube on how to replace the screen.
