MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) Upgrade Sam suggested, while I was having difficulty with an external drive, "Why not just install a bigger drive in your MacBook? Running a vm on an external usb2 drive will make it much slower. You could go the whole hog and install a 960GB SSD and have a faster Mac overall."
Well I did it, fitted a "SanDisk Ultra II SSD 960 GB Sata III 2.5 inch Internal SSD" £199.97. Speed is blistering, what can I say everything is just fast, apart from having both Word, Excel and Mail along with Safari open on the Mac, I opened 3 VM,s with Parallels, and they were all faster than the MacBook Pro on it own on the original HDD. Everything wasn't plane sailing, I chose the cheaper option with a "Patriot Torch LE 960GB SATA 3 2.5 (7mm height) SSD" Amazon £179.99. Had to send it back when after copying everything over 4 hours, It just didn't work, and when a System was Cloned to it, the system won't start up. Today got my money back. Anyone thinking about an SSD, just do it you'll be glad you did. Many thanks Sam for pushed me to make up my mind.
