Well, I finally got back around to finishing up a 2 m Bird from Skybench. I
think I have had 2 wing panels and a fuse laying around for about a year now!
I must say I have been VERY impressed by this kit. This is a laser cut kit,
the fit is impeccable. However, there are some laser cut kits on the market,
a certain HL design springs to mind (not a Sky bench kit!), that are really
poorly engineered. I am surprised anyone would bother to take the time to
kit them. Not so with the 2 m Bird. It seems either a lot of thought went
into the design, or Ray Hayes is just very talented. The kit build easily,
light and strong to boot. There doesn't seem to be any points in the kit
that need improvement. My walls are adorned with the likes of Multiplex,
Graupner, Simprop, etc., so me being impressed by an American made kit comes
as a surprise! The wood in the kit is well selected for its purpose. Soon I
will have it flying, will let everyone know how it flys. If the kit is any
indication it should be a winner. This kit isn't quite of the "add glue to
the box and shake into a monocoat bag for plane" kinda kit, but is about as
close as you can get. Put it this way, I assembled the entire fuselage,
without glue, and it stayed together!
