Yes with careful plan.
Don'ts:
-connect direct with or without fuse in series.
-relay the charge through the chassis.
Do's:
-with a series resistor or equivalent(12V15A bulb) to batt+ve cable.
-with batt+ve and -ve cables to relay the charge.(add safety margin from
spark)
--------------hope that help

Subject: [RCSE] Auto Battery Charging?

: This may be a dumb question, but here goes. I have a small tractor
battery
: that I keep in the back of my SUV for quick charging planes and radios -
: plus my zagi batteries. I happen to have a power outlet (lighter type)
: right next to the storage place for the battery. Is it possible to
connect
: the power outlet to the battery to recharge the tractor battery from the
: power outlet while I am driving? Do I need some special adapter or
circuit
: to regulate the charging? If not - how about a separate cable running
from
: the Battery + to the back of the vehicle - then a ground cable to the
frame
: in the back. Will the alternator then put out whatever is necessary to
: charge the additional battery?
:
: Thanks, Jim
