on modelers that have built their own Experimental airplane. Anyone who has or

Hmm...just a guess..sometimes in a hard crash, the nose cone can flex or
split and slide backwards beyond the point where it normally goes, possibly
slicing into the wing root. Perhaps the metal piece prevents this?
