I don't want to speak for Mark, but I think that was motivated at least partly by the fact that it fits with the need for an RES plane to minimize moments. Becuz of their exquisite light construction, his RES planes have outstanding handling qualities. Like Mark's RES planes, full-house planes seem to be evolving toward the use of thin sections. But in that arena, the fashion seems to be thin sections designed specifically for variable camber, plus moderately high loadings, from 9 1/2 to 11 oz/sq ft. Airfoils like the Icon, the HQ2-8, and the HN350 have low drag through a wide CL range as you manipulate the flaps. With the AR of the typical 3M plane, you get higher L/D if your wing can generate a fairly high CL. In the Unlimited class, a "light" loading is still 60% higher than that of an Allegro, and most planes have roughly double the Allegro's 5 oz/sq ft. > There are lots of very intelligent people out there > that like soaring- I'm smiling in the mirror, > here...8^) -and they were bound to figger this > out...sooner or later. Jack, you know when you talk about building it cuts your audience way down! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
