Before hastily posting a list of nominees, I would call the forum's
attention to Joe Wurts' post on the topic. Food for thought!! Someone
brought up that perhaps it should be a "Hall of Fame" type of deal. Not a
bad idea. From my own perspective, such a list should contain those have
contributed to or promoted the sport/hobby of R/C soaring. With that in
mind, my list: (No significance is implied by the order)
1 - Dan Pruss who demonstrated his love for R/C soaring.
2 - Members of the Chicago SOAR club who were Dan's contemporaries as
they defined what a large soaring contest should be with the SOAR Nats.
3 - Lee Renaud for producing quality kits that resulted (most of the
time) in quality planes.
4 - Dave Thornburg for a philosophy and set of instructions for R/C
soaring that have stood the test of time (and the beautiful BOT).
5 - Mark Smith who did more excellent flying with a 2 channel airplane
than a lot of pilots do with molded planes and lots o' channels. Also for
the Windfree and the Wanderer (poor man's Gentle Lady)
6 - Carl Goldberg for a definitive beginner's sailplane that has also
stood the test of time.
7- Bob Dodgson who led the way into straight winged, multi-channeled
sailplanes.
8 - Recent LSF leaders who breathed a breath of life into a lifeless
organization and completely revitalized the AMA R/C Soaring Nats.
9 - Dave Thornburg, LeGray, Herk Stokley, Bill Forrey and all of the
magazine columnists who, before the days of the INTERNET, kept us
well-informed through excellent monthly columns in the model aviation
press.

10 - Every person who has patiently introduced someone to R/C soaring.

Runners up:
Cecil Haga - for a beautiful line of sailplanes (including the Shuttle)
with innovative construction for their time.
Tom Williams - for the same.
Joe Wurts - for continually pushing the envelope in all aspects of R/C
soaring - flying, design, and construction.
Sal & Carolyn - for showing that there is indeed a market niche for
silent flight.
Dave Sanders and the folks at Trick aircraft for the "foamie"
revolution.
The old MARCS club of Madison,Wisconsin for their soaring symposia. (Now
there's a mantle that deserves to be picked up again)
Mike Lachowski for spearheading this forum and Model Airplane News for
supporting this forum and the contributions to the hobby that it has made.
I apologize for any spelling mistakes.
                            Respectfully submitted,
                                Jim Deck [EMAIL PROTECTED]
