Well put D.O.! I'll certainly miss getting together with you guys for contests, but we can and still do enjoy just having fun. This portion of the hobby, unlike pattern or free style/3D, doesn't require an opinion of another modeler or judge. The stopwatch and where the nose of your plane lands is the determining factor as to whether you've done your best or not.
For me and a few others, part of the fun is competing against others: finding thermals, practicing with a stop watch or friend and hitting that ever elusive 100 point landing. I for one will certainly miss attending the "Last Fling" each year. Hopefully in the future, either OKC or Tulsa will have enough active members to support at least a few contests a year.
