GpsFlight.com produces a unit that will transmit GPS telemetry to a receiver on the ground. They also have software that will display the data on a laptop with dials that simulate an aircraft instrument board(dials indicating groundspeed, altitude, vertical speed, heading). The software also displays transmitters position on a moving map and is updated once per second. A barometric altimeter is an option for altitude because it is far more accurate than GPS altitude. The onboard unit weighs something like 4 or 5 ounces and is small enough to fit in a typical scale glider or a cross country glider. The range is something like 15 miles line of sight. Total cost of the system is around $700.
