Mike, you are ill informed.

For many years (10?) the US Government has required all military and civillian
manufacturing and construction contracts to be based on the metric system.
 Most of our automobile manufacturing is metric, all of our aerospace is
metric, and our schools teach metric every day.

True, many of our citizens are slower to adopt it, but that is primarly
because we are a healthy, happy, long living society, and these large numbers
of older folks are slow to change.  For that reason, many consumer brand
manufacturers remain SAE, as is a significant portion of England (for comparision).
 That will change as the baby boomers (post WWII generation) die off.

So get your facts straight, and then harp your opinions, not the otherway
around.
