So people with those size of birds go to Marymoor more often than they show up at 60 acres. They have a runway, to be used as such. :) No one is saying that safety is a factor no matter the size of the bird, the materials it's made of, or how fast it goes.
These "electric guys" aren't whacked out weirdos buzzing the rocket people and their kids. If that's the picture that is being painted here, it's quite frankly incorrect. We're just trying to fly our planes and have fun while being safe. Some of the heli guys who go out there stand in the middle of the field and fly their own birds 3 feet from their necks. I never could understand that, myself. :) But I've been down to Flaming Geyser, and let me tell you sometimes it's like a Cuisinart with several three-foot-rotors in the air at once. And that's an officially sponsored AMA field. I have my solo permit. :) I stay out of those guy's way... But that is what I don't want 60 acres to become!!! And neither do you, do you??? As far as the story you heard about someone using the parking lot for an ROG, I hope you trust that I heard the story from the horse's mouth about that, and it was performed in a safe and responsible manner. No children or animals were harmed in the making. Whether or not the activity was to the letter of the "flight line" rule may not be material in this particular case. I was thinking that perhaps I might have been a bit stereotypical in my prior post. I apologize. Most of the "glider guys" out there are really nice and helpful. They are out there to have a good time too. We can all be safe while having a good time. It's not that hard, and there's no need to be strict about compliance with laws made for planes not like ours. However, in Sunday's case, with the public forum and the crowd of bystanders, it only takes a couple bad ones to spoil the bunch. And spoil the fun for everyone. :( So there are some times that I take "experimental" airframes out there. They are made of foam. This is where 60 acres shines for me, because there's a lot of space, and no trees. And it might fly, and might not. :) There's plenty of room in the middle of the field for that activity. To summarize: I did not mean to construe that unsafe behavior was acceptable at the field. -- _Mikey_ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ _Mikey_'s Profile: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=204221 View this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=861826 RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
