It is absolutely bunk that the Stratos SL has any structural weaknesses. We have been flying seven of them for up to two years with no structural wing or V-tail failures on launch. This sailplane is an excellent AMA thermal duration competitor. It also has a great speed range for flying contests with winds from 0 - 35 mph with proper ballast.
Sometimes I lose my balance launching my Stratos in adverse conditions and have to stand on the winch petal breaking our 300# winch line with a Rahm Winch powered by 3 deep cycle marine batteries.
